Rare digestive system diseases and its cure
Rare digestive system diseases can often be dangerous to
humans health, and functional digestive system diseases cannot be cured
traditionally. No infections, structural disorders can be visible by usual
examination, X-ray and laboratory test. If any organ in the digestive systems
fails to maintain the coordination with other organs, then the actual problem
occurs. Even if a brain controls the functions of nerves of the intestine, it
acts abnormally and then creates a significant problem in the digestive system.
For Emergencies Visit:
Here are some of the rare diseases as mentioned by “The National Institute Of Health Office of Rare Diseases Research.”
Achalasia
It happens in the nerves of oesophagus and effects in the
lower oesophagal valve. Symptoms of this disease often occur during a meal or
after a meal. All suffering person can feel the sensation of passing food
(solid or liquid) into the stomach.
Often bland regurgitation, incomplete digestion and whitish
saliva with chocking and coughing at night are common symptoms of Achalasia.
Some person also suffers from chest pain and heartburn. Due to the food
fermentation in oesophagus and retention of acidic food, this heartburn occurs.
Weight loss is also a significant symptom of this disease.
Treatment
Oesophageal manometry and barium X-rays are an adequate
diagnosis of Achalasia. The heller myotomy procedure and pneumatic dilation are
both successful in 80%- 90% cases.
●
Pneumatic
dilation: Upper GI endoscopy is the vital part of the pneumatic dilation
with a passage of different sized balloons to open the valve by tearing
oesophagus. It takes 30 minutes approximately. There are no major complications
in this procedure, but a crucial surgery is mandatory.
●
Heller myotomy: This
procedure involves muscles cutting through small laparoscopic sites with normal
anaesthesia. It requires hospitalization up to two days and the limitation of
physical activities for two weeks is necessary. Acid refluxes can be shown due
to the deep cutting of muscles.
Cyclic Vomiting
Syndrome
It is a disorder with repetition of vomiting and severe
nausea with alteration of periods without symptoms. The first phase only
includes vomiting that lasts up to a week or a month.
The second phase includes nausea with vomiting, and it
continues up to minutes to hours.
In the third phase, the suffering person loses the ability
to eat and drink properly, and he or she suffers from cold chills, belly pain,
hot sweats, headache and diarrhoea.
Treatment
Supportive care and oral medicine is the primary solution
for CVS. A short time treatment and a long-time treatment of drugs are
available for the prevention of the vomiting episodes. Antiemetic agents are
useful to reduce nausea and vomiting. Antimigraine and antianxiety medicines
can also be helpful. If electrolyte imbalance, dehydration and severe
irritation of oesophagus occur in the suffering period, then the person must be
treated as per doctors recommendation.
Hirschsprung’s
disease
The internal and external anal sphincter muscles are the
parts of the intestine and pelvic floor accordingly. The internal sphincter
prevents the leakage of gas and liquid from the rectum. But a reflex helps to
open the rectum when it fills with gas and liquid. Sometimes the nerves of this
reflex are not available with the newborn. This disease mainly occurs in
childhood sometimes in adulthood also.
Treatment
Necessary diagnosis needs to be made within the first few
months or years after birth. But the treatment should be made according to the
medical test reports and after doctors confirmation only. Basically, surgery is
the only permanent solution though some symptoms still exist after surgery,
then only proper medical management is required to recover from the prevailing
situation.
There are also some other rare digestive system diseases
such as Intestinal pseudo-obstruction, Levator syndrome, Rumination disorder,
Short bowel syndrome that have some major and minor harmful impacts on humans
health. Whenever any unusual symptoms prevail in your digestive system for a
long time, make sure to consult the gastroenterologists in chennai, as they provide the best treatment for such ailments.
